Hey guys! So recently I’ve been reading pretty consistently and I even managed to complete my initial GRs challenge of 20 books (I updated it so now it says 30)! Of course, then classes happened and right now I’m nearing finals so I haven’t been able to keep up my reading pace BUT I just wanted to shout to the world about these two books I’m eagerly awaiting!
SPINNING SILVER by NAOMI NOVIK
I have no idea how I ended up stumbling upon Naomi Novik but I can say that Uprooted is one of my favorite reads. So when I heard this book was coming out I was super excited. I also initially thought that it was some sort of sequel or side story because of the cover’s design but it’s actually a completely new story. In Spinning Silver we’ll get a taste of a Rumpelstiltskin retelling, which I don’t think I’ve ever read before. Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid, all of those are common. This one, I don’t even think I know the story OF Rumpelstiltskin!
Miryem is the daughter and granddaughter of moneylenders… but her father isn’t a very good one. Free to lend and reluctant to collect, he has loaned out most of his wife’s dowry and left the family on the edge of poverty–until Miryem steps in. Hardening her heart against her fellow villagers’ pleas, she sets out to collect what is owed–and finds herself more than up to the task. When her grandfather loans her a pouch of silver pennies, she brings it back full of gold.
But having the reputation of being able to change silver to gold can be more trouble than it’s worth–especially when her fate becomes tangled with the cold creatures that haunt the wood, and whose king has learned of her reputation and wants to exploit it for reasons Miryem cannot understand.
I’ve gone ahead and requested it on Netgalley but I fear my chances of approval are rather slim. Still, I do plan to add this to my shelf once it’s out!
REIGN OF MIST by HELEN SCHEUERER
So this isn’t the cover of Reign of Mist but it’s the sequel to Heart of Mist. I actually read this book when I participated in a blog tour and ended up LOVING IT. Since then I’ve been “patiently” waiting for the sequel. The first book followed a couple characters, which I ended up really liking, which isn’t usual for me. I’m not a big fan of multiple POVs but it was done so well and all our characters were so interesting! I just really want to know what’s in store for them! Lucky for us readers, Helen didn’t leave us hanging and ended up making quite a few novellas for us to check out while we wait. And she has a podcast with updates. I’d definitely check out her blog to keep up with what’s going on!
The realm’s darkest secret is out.
The cruelty of the capital and the power-hungry King Arden have scattered Bleak and her companions across the continents.
On the run in a foreign land, Bleak finds herself tied to some unexpected strangers. When the answers she yearns for are finally within reach, she must face the hard truths of her past, and take her fate into her own hands before it’s too late.
Meanwhile, secrets and magic unravel as a dark power corrupts the realm. Bleak’s friends are forced to decide where their loyalties lie, and who, if anyone, they can trust.
But one thing is certain: war is coming, and they must all be ready when it does.
I’m actually going to be rereading the series and the novellas once September gets closer because knowing me, I’d probably forget some important detail if I reread it now
There are also other books I’m excited about finally reading but these two are at the top of my TBR this year. I have high expectations for them and I’m sure they’re going to be even better than what I expected

Thanks for reading! Have you read any of these books before or books by the authors? Are you also excited about these new releases? Do you already have a copy (Ahhh, I’m so jealous!)?! What are some other releases this year I should be eagerly anticipating?
